SyncEvolution

Introduction

SyncEvolution synchronizes personal information management (PIM) data via the SyncML information synchronization standard. In Moblin, it provides a complete SyncML client application which supports the system addressbook, calendar, and tasks (both command line and GUI). Notes are also supported, but not used in Moblin. SyncEvolution is designed as a general-purpose infrastructure that can be extended to synchronize other kinds of data.

SyncEvolution has been an independent open source project for over three years before it was integrated into Moblin. Now development continues full-time as part of Moblin, with a focus on extending the functionality and adding direct device-to-device synchronization. The goal is to continue support of the traditional platforms (Evolution desktop, Maemo, Mac OS X) as time permits - in other words, no changes here. Like in any other open source project, help is welcome or even necessary to extend the range of supported platforms.

For more information, in particular about SyncEvolution development and other platforms, see the main project page at http://syncevolution.org.

GUI Available

Together, with Moblin 2.0 beta, we released the sync UI, the graphical user interface for SyncEvolution. Binaries are included in the standard Moblin 2.0 images, the source is in the public SyncEvolution git repository. We'll release the source as SyncEvolution 0.9 beta 2 soon, after a short break. Besides the GUI, this beta also contains numerous improvements in the core infrastructure and command line. See the NEWS file.
