IVI Audio Management

The Audio Manager component is a framework for defining and controlling a system of Logical Audio Sources and Logical Audio Sinks in an audio network. It is responsible managing the following set of functionality:

  • Multiple Audio Sources and Sinks
  • Multiple Simultaneous Audio Streams (Mixing)
  • Independent Volume Adjustment (Sources and Sinks)
  • Independent Mute/Unmute (Sources and Sinks)
  • Configuration of Audio Policies
  • Virtual Devices

The Audio Manager supports both single board systems as well as systems with distributed audio routing units (e.g. Rear Seat Entertainment units). It has been developed in such a way that the type of audio bus in use, the types of audio devices and the hardware configuration target related at audio sound elaboration and switching are abstracted. The Audio Manager can be extended to support a specific type of audio bus, audio devices and audio sound elaboration and switching through CPU or dedicated DSP by implementing bus plug-ins and device control modules.
