People Panel

The people panel is the central point for all your contacts; currently it contains your contacts or “buddies” from your Instant Messenger (IM) account. It gives you the ability to instantly see who is online or available so you can engage in a quick IM conversation.

You access the people panel via the toolbar, by clicking the people icon.

The people panel currently has 2 areas. The top search bar lets you type and filter to find the person you would like to communicate with. The second area is an A-Z listing of all your contacts.

The people search bar is a quick search and filter for your contact(s). Search results replaces the A-Z listing. To return to the A-Z listing simply clear the search field.

Contacts / “Buddy” area lets you glance at your contacts and instantly see who is online or available. To start a conversation, simply click an available contact and the associated application launches (IM only for beta) or start a new conversation.

Note: The Beta release only allows you to add contacts via your IM account with Jabber, Salut or Google Talk. If you have accounts with one of the clients mentioned, you must enter your account details into the Instant Messenger application and have the instant messenger running, before they show up. Future releases will include email integration, and other address book functionality.
