Moblin Web Browser

Summary

The Moblin Browser is an uncluttered yet slick browser that integrates beautifully into the Moblin Netbook experience. Based on Mozilla technology and using the same Clutter building blocks as the rest of the Moblin Netbook experience, the browser gives you access to your favorite web sites and applications in a simple smooth interface.

The Automagic Bar

The automagic bar is your internet swiss army knife, serving multiple uses in a small compact area at the top of the browser window. You can use the automagic bar to enter the URL of a website, search the web, or your previous browsing history as well as start, stop, or reload the current page. You can even use it to pin a site right onto your New tab page for easy access. The automagic bar is two pieces; the text entry area and the button area.

To get started type the address of your favorite website in the text entry area. You can then either press enter or click on the play button on the right hand side. As the page loads you will see a blue progress bar move across in the background of the bar. While a page is loading you can stop progress by hitting the red stop button on the right hand side of the bar. Once a page has loaded the button changes to a reload button. In addition to URLs you can type search terms into the automagic bar or parts of previously visited pages you're trying to remember – as you type you'll see a dropdown of choices.

Tabbed Browsing

The browser supports opening multiple websites in tabs – you can create a new tab by clicking on the new tab button. The new tab page shows you a list of your most recently viewed websites, as well as any sites you have pinned. To switch tabs you can just click on the tab of choice, or if you click on the arrow on the right hand side of the tab bar, this will open up a visual tab switcher which shows a live preview of each tab (you can also switch tabs from the Internet panel in the toolbar).

Bonus tip:You can open links in a new tab by holding the Ctrl key and clicking the link.

New Tab page and Pinning

As you browse the internet and see pages you want to recall for further reference you can 'pin' these pages. Pinned pages appear on the new tab page along with a list of your favorite pages. This updates all the time to show you the places you really want to go. It's a really quick way to keep up with your regular sites.

+10 for autohiding feature

As other people has posted here, it could be VERY useful to have an auto-hiding feature for the top bar. That way you can have more screen space available. Lets hope that moblin project could advance a step further on next release, right now it's the most beautiful design and usability for netbooks but it still need some basic features (like broadcom network driver support) to be usable. For the moment i'm still using jolicloud...

keep up the good work!

kind regards,

Main menubar

Looking at the preferences in the Moblin Web Browser it is indeed obvious that it is ("based on") Mozzila Firefox. Great! It still is the best browser to me! Not sure what Chrome will do for us in the near future...

Just one question, would it be possible to have the Main Menu Bar active by default on startup?
I really think that would be very handy, and the bookmarks at the left side? Why not just above/below the URL-Bar?

I could install Firefox (again) next to this browser, but that's loss of valuable disk-space if you ask me...

Could automagic bar play hide and seek?

Well, i like this automagic bar which is pretty awesome. But on my dell mini, it uses 10% of my screen height wich is way too much. Would it be possible to add an hide option? or a fullscreen one?
The browser works like a charm, even with hard website like Google Wave. Though, there is too much javascript over there and my small Atom processor doesn't appreciate that much.
A classic bookmark system that enables boorkmarklet could be very usefull...

Autohiding option for the navigation toolbar is a must have. I can't understand why it's not implemented yet. Let's hope that this could be added soon.

download?

I was using the beautiful webbrowser to find some theora sample video's on the web. Once I found them, I was not able to download them, I could only open them in the browser.

I would like to see one of these two options:
1) Provide the browser with an option to download files when a user wants it (maybe a glow-up pop-up button next to a mime-type link?
2) Open media in the more then excelent media player instead of inside the browser.

conventional bookmarks?

I keep an extensive book mark collection for projects and fun.

I like the pinned page to help me jump to my daily checks.
Is there planeto get a conventional list of bookmarks that can be imported?

maybe a book icon next to the settings with a dropdown.
