Moblin Image Manager User Guide

Overview

Moblin Image Manager (MIM) is a GUI toolset for MIC2.

MIM includes the following GUI tools:

  • moblin-image-creator-ui
  • moblin-image-convertor-ui
  • moblin-chroot-ui
  • moblin-launch-vm-ui
  • moblin-write-to-usb-ui

moblin-image-manager is a control panel. Users can use it to start one of the above GUI tools.

Features

Moblin Image Manager (MIM) has some important features that MIC2 doesn't have:

  • Create one/multiple image types, once using the same kickstart configuration
  • Launch VM (MIC2 doesn't provide this)
  • Provide USB Writer (MIC2 provides this, but it must be used to create a liveusb image)
  • Embed vte in UI for converter
  • Add/delete/edit repos for one image, creating and optionally saving them for next use
  • Specify proxy for one repo
  • Create image without a kickstart file
  • Configure language, keyboard, time zone, kernel boot parameters, users/passwords
  • Select package or groups on demand
  • Select desktop type (Gnome, XFCE, Moblin, IVI)
  • Smartly select necessary packages
  • Check if core packages are selected

Installation

Moblin Image Manager depends on MIC2, so you must make sure your system has met MIC2 installation requirements. Please refer to MIC2 requirements to set up. You also should install MIC2. Please refer to MIC2 installation to install it.

Once you are ready, you can follow the steps below to install Moblin Image Manager:

git clone git://git.moblin.org/moblin-image-manager
cd moblin-image-manager
make clean
make
sudo make install

Usage

Moblin Image Manager will create a desktop icon for moblin-image-manager, it will also add menu items for moblin-chroot-ui, moblin-image-creator, moblin-image-convertor, moblin-write-to-usb-ui and moblin-launch-vm-ui in Applications -> System Tools.

Moblin Image Manager Start Menu

You can start moblin-image-manager from the terminal or the system tools menu. It requires root privilege, so you will see this dialog:

After authentication, a control panel will navigate you to do what you want.
