Do you want to try Moblin on your netbook? Follow the steps below to download and run a Moblin Live USB image on your netbook or mobile device.
All of the images below are live images that can be run without modifying the hard drive or configuration of your netbook. When you're done, just remove the USB drive and reboot.
Pre-requisites
- Linux operating system with Python 2.4 or newer.
- A USB drive with the capacity of the uncompressed image size selected below.
Steps
- Download an image for your platform
Image File Date Created Compressed Uncompressed Description Image Coming Soon 09/18/08 249 MB 422 MB XFCE Desktop with Firefox browser - Download image-writer
Image Writer is a small python executable script that detects your USB drive and writes the image to it. It safely performs the following command:
# dd bs=4096 if=<image file> of=<usb drive>
Download Image Writer - Uncompress Image and Run Image Writer
Uncompress the downloaded image. Insert your USB drive in your Linux workstation. Run Image Writer.
Note: Image Writer requires root permission.
$ gunzip <downloaded image file path>
$ sudo image-writer <uncompressed image file path>
- Boot your netbook or mobile device from the USB drive

Insert the USB drive in your netbook and reboot. Make sure that the netbook boot order tries the USB drive first.

Dual boot with WinXP
Hi there, looks good so far.
Any issues / tips / tricks / HOWTOs on installation on local hard disk
to a MSI Wind U120 with 160GB SATA internal HDD ?
Would like to dual boot with existing WinXP.
I guess the NTFS partition will need to be resized first..
Thanks!
how do you install software?? it's asking for root password
what is the root password.
try your username's password. otherwise it should be moblin

Hi Sir , I have successfully write to the USD and connect the USB Disk to my Netbook , but what is the user name and password ?
Link broken indeed
Yup, the /repos/moblin2 directory on that server has no images subdirectory. Looks like things got reorganized. Is the pre-built image still available somewhere else?
git link down
I can't seem to find the Netbook_091508.img.gz file. Looks like the link is broken.
