New moblin 2.1 preview Image posted
A new preview of the Moblin v2.1 image is now available for download and testing. Many new features and bug fixes are available in this image.
Moblin v2.1 adds new features and developments and will be used as the base for future new user experience support for Mobile Internet Devices (MIDs), in-vehicle infotainment (IVI), and embedded devices, such as media phones. The release target for Moblin v2.1 for netbooks and nettops is expected to release to the community in Q4 2009. The Moblin v2.1 release for netbooks and nettops includes many community and customer requested enhancements; for example, support for additional nettop screen resolutions, myzone improvements, IM improvements, better language support, updated kernel, Moblin Garage, Moblin Application Installer, 3G data support, and Bluetooth.
The Moblin v2.1 release timing for other user experiences, such as MID, IVI and embedded devices, will align with the availability and release of those hardware platforms.
Please use the moblin bugzilla to file any bug reports and provide any additional feedback to the new release on the moblin development mailing list. It's with your feedback and community support that we can continue to innovate and provide further enhancements to Moblin.
Moblin images require an Intel Atom* processor based netbook or nettop. The following platforms are what we have been using for testing purposes: Acer AspireOne*; Asus eeePC* 901; 1005ha; 1008ha; Dell Mini* 9; 10, and 10v, MSI Wind*; Toshiba NB205-XX*; and Samsung NC10*.
The image and other information can be found at the downloads page.
Follow the instructions how to use that image on one of the supported platforms.

3g support for dongles
Hi guys,
you may be interested to know that betavine are supporting a 3G Modem Connection Manager. It takes care of the diffrences of over 50+ modems, modem flipping, HAL and UDEV rules, SMS, PIN, PUCK, Contacts, Usage statistics, and Evolution plugin.
It's also open source, works automatically with all Vodafone Opp-Co's and can be configured to work with other mobile operators.
You can find out about the app here:

ASUS 1000HE Moblin 2.1 preview..
ASUS 1000HE with Moblin 2.1 on4Gb HDSD card in slot.
Just started testing... initial comments;
1) Sound now works OK on 2.1 (no sound on 2.0)
2) Wi-Fi easy setup BUT randomly drops connection (3 ft away from router!).
Self-reconnects with no problem - annoying!
3) For easy general web browsing needs Java and Flash installed.
4) A 'Power Off/Reboot' drop down from the menu would be nice to do an orderly shut down instead of using the 1000HE 'on/off' button!.
Remember Settings
DaveG,
My live image does not save the WiFi and Audio settings after reboot.
Other than that connection is stable and does not drop.
Do you know why?
Re: Remember Settings?
If you're running from the LiveCD then the answer is obvious ;-)
I used the LiveCD to install on a 4G SHDHC (biggest I have!) but an 8Gb would be better.
Using 16GB SDHC
Dave
I used byte copier to create a bootable SD card image. This card is 16GB in size, so there should not be any space problem.
Before that i tried to create an image from USB drive by running Moblin in installation only mode. But when i boot from SD, i got Kernel panic.
Moblin 2.1 nb205 problems connecting to wifi
with moblin 2.0 i had no problem with the OS being able to connect to wifi network.
in 2.1 the connection hangs at "configuring" connection and then fails.
Any suggestions?
ASUS 1000HE 2.0 -- no sound, touchpad problems
No sound on 1000HE using 2.0. Bug posted.
Other 2.0 on ASUS 1000HE:-
no 'tap' function on touchpad
Also no left/right click on touchpad.
Couldn't find power ON/Off/Restart,etc button, used CTL-ALT-DEL
Nice fast boot. Good screen resolution.
Runs nicely from SDHC card in slot.
Will try downloading and testing 2.1 tomorrow.
No WiFi on DELL Mini 10v, Otherwise Pretty Good!
Just booted the current 2.1 preview release and still no WiFi on a Dell Mini 10v, is this a generic Broadcomm driver problem with the Mini 10v or something local to me?
Apart from WiFi (bit of a show-stopper really) I really like the snappy response of the system and the look & feel of the UI, would like to move to Moblin for my mobile computing as soon as I can.
David
Version Update from 2.0?
I am still using 2.0 because it is not easy for me to re install the OS. Is it possible for you to add the 2.1 updates to a repostiory so we can stay up to date without having to re download and re install all the time?
Yes! I second these
Yes! I second these comments! It'd be great to be able to use yum upgrade instead of having to do a fresh install. Possible?
Toshiba NB 200
I move my Feedback:
Use the version 2.1 on a Toshiba NB 200 but did not work the Volume control in the web browser with flash player can not see the volume button and the play button, I can not copy and paste with the right mouse button, either with Ctrl C, Ctrl+V. Bluetooth did not work.
Greetings,
I have trouble downloading Moblin 2.1
I want to help with testing the 2.1 version but the download never completes, there are other mirrors or torrents to download the distro?
reset network settings?
So, i installed the 2.1 preview and except for the fact that wifi is still not working out of the box on the Dell mini 9, i'm really enjoying everything.
my problem is that, since i'm silly, i typed the wrong info when i first tried to use the 3G connection.
Now i obviously can't connect, and it never asked me for the details again.
Is there anyway to reset these network settings? or does anyone know where these settings are saved so that i can just go there and delete them from the file?
cheers.
Beta to Final
If I install Moblin 2.1 can I easy upgrade from beta to final?
acerhdf on moblin 2.1
If anyone interested:
1) download 'acerhdf' package from http://www.piie.net/index.php?section=acerhdf and "untar" that
2) open consolle
3) type 'sudo yum install gcc-c++ make man autoconf automake libtool git gtk-doc gettext emacs kernel-netbook-devel'
4) goto 'into acerhdf_kmod" directory'
5) type "make" . (ignore depmod error) ... 'sudo make install' .... 'sudo /sbin/depmod -a' ... 'sudo /sbin/modprobe acerhdf'
6) type 'sudo echo -n "enabled" > /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/mode'
7) open '/etc/rc.local'
8) add line: 'echo -n "enabled" > /sys/class/thermal/thermal_zone0/mode' to permanently activate fan control on boot
Thanks
Works like a charm! You know you do not need to install all that stuff, maybe you want it anyway, but git, gtk-doc and emacs are definently not needed for compiling acerhdf.
Cheers!
Having issues :( I'm finding
Having issues :(
I'm finding my Acer On 8.9" locking up almost every day. Also, it doesn't go into standby mode correctly, will lock sometimes and I need to reboot the system. Also, the touchpad doesn't seem to work correctly, it's much to sensetive and even when I reduce sensitivity it still seems off.
3G Support
3G support still missing for Huawei 169 modem, but I guess it ist a bug in the kernel and not in connmgr. dmesg shows the modem acting like a disk. Help if you can.
Greetings from Germany
"sudo gedit
"sudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist"
end of line write:
#Huawei
blacklist airprime
reboot?
No, it is definitiv a problem
No, it is definitiv a problem of the kernel and it is solved. We have to wait for the next update.
Broadcom
Hello,
Are you included the Broadcom's driver in this new version ?
What's the best Acer Aspire One netbook to use?
I am thinking of buying a new netbook to test Moblin and with the plethora of models out there, I am a little confused about what I should get.
Any guidance would be appreciated...
Installed on my Acer One 8.9"
Installed on my Acer One 8.9" and works perfect. Sometimes the previous build would not go into standby correctly, but maybe this was resolved in this build. I wish WiFi would be recognized a little quickly. Looking forward to updates and new builds.
